Online Points To Ponder
- A new report by JupiterResearch reports that over the next five years, search spending will see its share of online ad dollars increase to 43% in 2011. Search advertising currently represents about 40% of the overall online ad market. The same study found that search advertising dollars will outpace display and traditional online advertising over the next decade.
- Forrester Research's May 2006 study of U.S. marketers found that 83% are currently using e-mail marketing. An additional 10% are piloting or expected to pilot e-mail marketing by the end of 2006. The same study revealed that 64% of respondents currently use search marketing while 16% more will add it to their marketing mix this year.
- A new book by marketing industry veterans Greg Stuart and Rex Briggs, 'What Sticks: Why Most Advertising Fails and How to Guarantee Yours Succeeds', details a five-year research project that tracked $1 billion in ad spending by 36 major marketers and concluded that 37% of all advertising spending is wasted. The good news is that at least it’s possible to discover exactly what's wasted -- and how to get better performance from the other 62.7%.
- TNS Media Intelligence (June 2006) forecasts that ad spending will increase by 5.3% during the second half of 2006. Internet advertising is expected to increase by 13% during the same time period.
